Raise awareness about local marine biodiversity and promote respect for the ocean environment.
2010:
Opening Phase 2
Phase 2 of the Ucluelet Aquarium will strive to be a role model for institutions of its kind. The building will incorporate environmentally friendly construction practices, such as a green roof and recycled materials. Displays will be dynamic, reflecting seasonal changes in the marine environment. Water will flow out of the displays into a system of outdoor tide pools, enriching the marine habitat of Ucluelet harbour. A small classroom or wet lab will serve as an activity center for visiting school groups. This institution will serve as a focal point for environmental education in the community.
