Raise awareness about local marine biodiversity and promote respect for the ocean environment.
Spring 2008:
Opening phase 1 of the Ucluelet Aquarium
The Society aims to reopen its science education center on the waterfront in Ucluelet in 2008. Phase one of this project will involve placing the former Mini Aquarium building onto a permanent platform, sitting on pilings over the intertidal zone. Many of the same displays used in the Mini Aquarium will be recreated in this new facility. In addition, Phase 1 will include a more elaborate system of outdoor touch pools. Water flowing out of these displays will enrich local marine life. Most importantly, the establishment of Phase 1 will allow the Society to pursue its educational goals while Phase 2 is under construction.
